what's the best kitty litter?

so many to choose from. Help! I bought a top entry littler box that she's getting used to, but need a litter that clumps well and hides odor.

I see you're in California - so brand and stuff will not be much use from the UK. However, I have always used generic "chick crumb" - which is crushed cornmeal / chicken feed for baby chicks. It is ccheap and clumps well. With some batches there are issues with dust, since it's made to be eaten not walked in Perhaps you have something similar in farm feed shops there ?

I am like Peter I also use the chick crumb but mix it with the starter pellets as well not so dusty but back up what Peter says a cheap{and thats not meant as a pun}way to go seems to absorb the smells well too...

I'm quite happy with World's Best (extra strength) which I know you have in the US. It clumps well, is good at absorbing odours and doesn't track all over the house. The only problem I have is that it is expensive (may not be in the US), but unlike Peter and Jackie I only have one furry so it's not too bad. If I had more than one I think I would be seeking out the chick crumb too.

I use ExquisiCat Premium Clay unscented. It's only at Petsmart, not sure if you have them where you are. It doesn't clump, everything kind of dissipates and drys, no odor. It works well considering she didn't know how to bury when we got her (she would pull the edge of the little box like she wanted to just fold it over, lol)

We use Dr.Elsey's Precious cat litter available at Petsmart. I tried the Worlds Best with my senior Manx and Tequila. Neither of them would have it. Both would go back to the clay. Dr.Elsey's is a very low dust and it clumps very well. I like Worlds Best because it's flushable but if neither of them liked it, no point of flushing money down the toilet. KWIM?

I use World's Best for my girls and neuters, which is easy to clean out, doesn't smell, is flushable and can go in the compost bin (wet only, no solids) as its biodegradeable. I use Catsan for my tom though as it masks smells better.

Oh, as LilyC alluded to above; for many cats do not just change the litter over but either slowly mix them over a period of a couple of weeks steadily increasing the amount of the new litter and/or provide two litter boxes, one with the old litter and the other with the new with a little old litter mixed in for "smell". Else some of our little loves will get confused and stressed...

We use wood pellets that we get from Pets at Home, was using a Catsan one but it bloody hurts when you tread on it with no socks on!!

We use World's Best Extra Strength. I like that it is flushable although I do that rarely. It's quite pricey but it lasts well.
