    Litter trays for Maine Coons?

    Hi,

How big is the litter tray that you have for your Maine Coon? We preferably want a covered one but not sure if he will fit once he gets a bit bigger so any info would be much appreciated Thank you

Welcome! Would love to see and hear more about you MC.

Myself I use a jumbo sized pan. They are massive. And the entrance area is depressed. So if need be, I guess he could stand half in and half out. But usually they don't stand length wise when using the pan, they squat. My boy is almost too long, and he has no problems using this. It is not like they are sitting there all day reading a magazine.

We had the same problem as our two kept peeing over the edge of the open tray and we wanted a large covered one. Ours now use the jumbo covered tray from Zooplus - and it's fab! It's a lot bigger than it looks in the picture but easily allows them both enough room to do their business with no more spills :-)

Oh and I wanted to add this. With the sitting height of my MC at 7 months, I am glad I never bought a covered pan. (Was thinking about it.) There is no way he would be comfy squatting in the pan with his head banging off the cover. You may want to measure your kitties sitting height. And then measure the pan to the top of the cover (subtracting a few inches for litter). So if you decide on a covered pan, remember that there are a few styles that are taller than others. A Booda was the model I was once considering.

LOL... looks like we have yet another Monty on the forum! That makes four!
    Anyway, welcome on board!
We use the same trays as Rachel. They are indeed massive ... when the first one was delivered and we took it out of the box we were like: OMG, look at the size of that thing!

But they're useful trays and I can recommend them. Do take care to use enough litter - this will prevent the pees and poos sticking to the bottom of the tray. We use an entire 15 kilo bag for each tray.

Again, nice to have you on here... and I'd love to know what your Monty looks like.

Hi! I am keeper of the other Monty! Welcome to Monty no 4 - and may I say an excellent choice of name. Is he by any chance a black smoke, like mine and Antonia's? Dying to see some pictures when you get a chance.

Re. trays, excellent advice already given. I have 4 trays in my cellar so I don't bother to have covers on them, especially now the lads are so big. One of the trays is a shallow storage box from the hardware shop - about 2 feet long.

Yes we changed to the Jumbo one that Rachel has a couple of weeks ago. I can safely confirm that it is enormous and there is loads of room in there. It was such a relief as Mufasa kept flicking bits out of his old tray (even through the door) and I would see him trying to dig up the mat 'outside' the tray to cover his mess I would like to add that I purchased an extra large poop scoop also from ZooPlus which has been very good and saved many trips backwards and forwards to the loo as I can get most of it on there at one go!

    Re.. Huge litter tray.

We made ours and its fab.We bought an extra large guinea pig cage, with deep plastic tray and a large cage on the top with a lift up lid in the centre. We cut strips of persex the height of the cage and bent corners with heat gun and glued them in using hot glue sticks, then removed the cage door at the front and Voila ... !! a massive 100 cm enclosed tray, which we can clean by opening the large top 'door' and remove the whole cage for washing. Ok !! bit of fiddling about but it works amazingly well.
    jckkerrison and Fozzie like this.

Crikey, you've gone to some trouble there! Would love to see pics... of the super-duper tray and of course your lovelies (but not whilst they are using it, I hasten to add!
