Do Maine Coon cats have a habit of lying across doorways?
This may seem a strange one, but I've never come across it before with other cats so wonder whether other MCs have a habit of lying across open doorways to rest and relax. Kitten always gravitates to lying in front of the living room entrance, dining room entrance, bedroom entrances etc.. In the summer I thought the doorway habit may just be a way for him to keep cool and away from the summer heat, but he's still got a thing about doorways in the winter. It may seem an insignificant detail to worry about, but the reason for posting is that it makes walking around the house problematic at times and this evening I nearly went flying as I didn't look down to see him in time...

It seems to me that Maine Coons will lie down anywhere they can get in the way of your feet! Kenny's favourite place is on my computer desk across my keyboard.

You have a rug in the doorway? My Teddy Bearz likes to lay on rugs in doorways and in my bathroom at times. He likes to switch up where he lays every few days though. Sometimes up high on the master chest of drawers, sometimes on the window perch, sometimes on the couch back, sometimes on the floor with his feet up in the air, etc...
Anyways, with 4 cats, you learn to shuffle your feet and never walk in the dark.
Even then, the youngins will run into your legs and feet. So even if you freeze in place, BAM. Ouchie!

Yeah notice I didn't mention Sasha? She has only two places, on mama or daddy. Teddy Bearz shares equally his lap and "other place" time when I am home. Likely due to him being too large for a lap. He actually hangs off of me when on my lap. So I have to support his rear end. But I suspect sasha will always be a 99.9% dedicated lap cat. That is if her size allows it. If she is anything like her parents she could end up bigger than Teddy Bearz or at least similar in size. This will be interesting to see. We should take bets on her final outcome.

Yep, couple of ours lie in doorways! The stairs are the worst thought - especially when there's one on each step in a row - it's not fun trying to climb ove three steps!

One of ours just lies in the middle of the doorways, in the middle of the floor, well anywhere in the way really. Our girl prefers to lie on the stairs so if you get up at night you HAVE to put the light on so you dont tread on her, the other prefers the top of the laundry basket, the back of the sofa or a lap, but the thing I have learnt is coonies are not cats, they are a life form all of their own :o)

Haha! Bullet is exactly the same, collapsing wherever he stands is his favourite thing. We recently got a new doormat at the front door and he loves it! Nearly been squished a few times. lol

Yes doorways, top of the stairs, on top of the litter tray (?), on his back legs akimbo in front of the TV, on every chair, in the coat cupboard etc etc etc. In fact, anywhere apart from his cat bed until I had the bright idea of positioning it under the radiator - RESULT!!!!!
