Wonder if Kitten is the first MC to bite off the end of his tail fur ...

Yesterday Kitten my 11 month old MC decided to raid the roasting tin in the evening to get at the remains of the roast potatoes before we washed up. The contents was cold but somehow he managed to drag his tail through the oily tray. We didn't notice at first, and just thought his tail needed a good clean which we gave it, but he must have chewed most of the end of the tail fur before hand to remove the oil himself. His tail seems shorter and the still fur covered tail bone sticks out. It doesn't look like he's injured himself so I won't take him to the vet, but wonder how long - and I suppose if - it will take for his tail fur to properly grow again.

I've attached a photo - it may not look too obvious here - but his usually fluffy tail end has gone.

Sorry Kitten shouldn't laugh but it does look funny,good thing you are not a show cat or mum would be hopping mad.....
As long as he hasn't damaged the tip it should grow back again,might take a month or two before it looks reasonably good ,just keep a bit of an eye on him because once they have stripped it themslves they very often have another go,have a friend who can't comb her cats tail because if she does he just sits & pulls it all out & he walks around pleased as punch with a pipe cleaner sticking up in the air !

MC Elvis starts to tear up his tail in the late summer/early fall. Probably much more so than Kitten...

Vet says that he's allergic to fleas, but he doesn't go outside and I've never actually seen one or gotten any flea leavings in the comb.

Must be hitchhiking on the dogs even though they get dosed regularly. Bad year for fleas here.

After a dose of Advantage Plus and a shot he's not scratching and/or leaving clumps of hair around the place any more.

Same thing happened last year.

Unfortunately it takes a while to grow back. 2-3 months last time.

I have to admit that when Hector lost his plume of a tail it was down to me getting a little happy with the furminator, it took a couple of months to come back.........I'm now only allowed five strokes of it once a month or so x
