Hi, I'm new here! Just a query really from some experts! I have adopted a stray cat, he was bullied out of his other home by another cat so his owners signed him over to me as he was a real state, 18months old, entire, covered in infected cuts, I work in a vets so got him treated and castrated. I've moved and brought the cat with me and hes very much enjoying being a house cat, he is the sweetest thing and he and my old ginger are tolerating him each other very well!

My question is do you think he's a MC or has MC in him? last time I'm weighed him he was 5.5kg and very lean. He's much bigger than my "normal" cat, and has a beautiful long tail. I'm half convinced he is (but I love MC's so may have just talked myself into this) but would love to hear your opinion. Getting in touch with his previous owners is not an option, he was pretty much neglected by them and they had made no effort to find him once he became a stray and moved into my old landladys shed! hope this all makes sense!

Introducing Nero, he is now 2 years old and already putting on plenty of weight with regular meals, and stealing his brothers when we're not looking!



The middle picture is before he moved from yorkshire to gloucestershire and the other two are him enjoying being a much loved family pet.

It makes no difference to me whether he is a Coon or not, I love him dearly but just curious!

He could be, Google "Maine Coon Cat Traits" you should be able to find a site that will list the physical and personality traits of the MCC from nose to tail.
Regardless of his ancestry he's a handsome lad, I hope you share a long and happy life together.

I agree with cooncatbob,wether he is or not he now looks a very relaxed & happy handsome cat so well done in giving him another life,the fact that he has so quickly accepted being a house cat after being the local "rough tom" does make you think there could be some pedigree in him,bless...x

He does seem to have quite a few of the traits and definatly the size! Although not the intelligence part, he's constantly jumping into a closed window and rolling off things! He is an absolute sweetheart and I'm completely smitten with him, as is the rest of the family!! Well except the other cat!

I wouldn't be concerned about intelligence, I think that's actually the girls.
MCC male are over grown boys, many of them are big klutzes and clowns, kittens who never grow up except in size.

Once again have to agree with cooncatbob & the intelligence factor, girls are busy & bright boys are village idiots so his behaviour does tend to point towards MC,example,one of our boys went through cat flap from sitting room into pen,pen door open so they could get into the garden to play,starts raining,said cat wailing at door to come in,stop painting ceiling off of step ladder to let him in telling him how stupid he was not to come back in via pen,climb back up ladder to see same cat go out through flap into garden & two minutes later,yep, wailing at the door to come in because it was still raining,dim or what...!

My MC is going to be 6 months old. He quickly learned to go in/out of the pet door to get to his liter box in the laundry room. In the morning he went in, used the box, and easily came back out the pet door. Later in the day he went in, used the box, then meowed until we let him out. I asked DH to help me retrain him to use the pet door. DH said "you can't fix stupid".
