Advice on carpet protection from kitten enjoying some meat

Hi all,

After seeing Peter's post about his kittehs getting gingivitis, I decided to join in with the feeding meat that Rasputin has to chew once a week.

It's going quite well so far however the only issue is that he picks up the large chunks out of the bowl and then eats them off the carpet (right next to) rather than on the plastic mats we've got for him. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I could put down over the carpet to protect it?

Plastic mat mum thats a bit common,do you prefer eating off of paper plates to china ones....!
Can just imagine him enjoying it off of the best carpet,hopefully someone else has had the problem & can come up with a good idea but what springs to my mind is a cheap carpet square underneath just on his raw food day that you can remove & sponge down ready for the next time,hopefully he wouldn't realise it was diferent colour to the other one & you are trying to hoodwink him....x

Hi there, yes when they are having a good chew they like to move away from the dish, as you've found. You could spread out a tea-towel or piece of plastic table cloth and feed him on that. Easily washed and tidied away afterwards.

Now that is a lot more civilised Peter,will look to getting some of those but for the reason stated on them, could make life a lot easier around the litter tray areas.....

What about one of those large see-through plastic mats that are used under office chairs to spare the floor or carpet? I suspect it depends on the radius of the mess

You could try to feed him his meat someplace where there's no carpet. I know some people feed raw stuff in the bathroom/shower, or even in the bathtub. Very easy to clean afterwards.

Thanks guys, all really helpful suggestions! Might try getting a few of the large mats and creating a kitten-food-proof area for him
