Elvis Finds the Lap

Like many MCs, Elvis hasn't been much of a lap kitty.

I pick him up, he tolerates it for 10 - 30 seconds or so, starts wiggling to get away,
then sits close by so as to not miss anything. Pretty normal MC stuff.

Anyway, last week I grab the comforter off the bed and was sitting under it on the sofa
watching the toob because I didn't feel like cranking the heat and Elvis checks it out
for a second, hops right up, takes a few spins and goes right to sleep on my lap.

Since then, I can count on his company when I hide the lap under a blanket.

Weird. I guess stealth lap is OK. It wasn't that cold that he'd be bothered by it

Doesn't fix the fact that Elvis is far longer than my lap is wide...

My guy only wants to cuddle on his terms. Pick him up and he immediately wants down. If he curls up next to us he leaves at the 1st pet. We hope one day he'll let us cuddle him.

BUT I WANT TO CUDDLE!!!! *stomping feet*

I hope as he gets older he will come around and want cuddles. I can only hope. For now, I'll get all the cuddles from Maya.

They are such gorgeous, wonderful characters aren't they

Marco is a big bruiser but loves having a cuddle, not for long mind. He rests his head on my shoulder, I nuzzle into his ruff and the motor volume goes off the scale. Then suddenly, whoops, this is not very manly Mum, time to get down!

Finn also loves cuddles, I pick him up, he sort of collapses & drapes himself so that his elbows and front legs hang over my shoulder, head tucked into my neck, motor whirring. Sadly it's usually me that has to end the cuddle, he's just too heavy

Tess on the other hand will only ever succomb to a cuddle if she's feeling sociable! She loves it once she's there, but isn't too keen on the idea initially & doesn't stay for very long

They all used to love 'Dad's' lap when they were babies, but recently it's only been Finn on my lap (twice I think!) and Tess on Dads - although they are always lying within touching distance if at all possible.

Tigs will spend all of his day and night on Dad's lap if at all possible

Love them all to pieces, the house would be so very empty without them

eric will cuddle all day long ..ernie only if i have a fleece blanket over me or my fleecy dressing gown on , but he loves being on your shoulder when you walk around ...each to their own lol

How awesome you lil trickster. Isn't it glorious having a big MC boy on your lap? Hope he keeps it up and maybe even jumps on your lap other times too.

The ticket to keep him there is to hold his bum and front paws. Just plan on your arms aching at first until you get used to it. My boy would slide off otherwise. I hold his bum with my right arm. And he hooks his front paws over my other arm. And Teddy will hold on tight and clawlessly pull on my arms with much love. Thus you can't do anything but love em while they are there. We butt heads and I kissie and rub him with my face. Obviously since I have no hands left after holding him.

I honestly wonder if the laplessness of some is due to their size. Teddy also loves to snuggle up high with me. This is perfect since I can use my hands to scratch him also. Every morning he will jump up on my 3 foot bed for his before work snuggle. And many other times he will jump up on my 4 foot high kitchen table for snuggles.

Now Sasha is a lap cat on steroids. The other night she got angry at mom. You see I just wanted 15 minutes without her on my lap. I had to put her on the floor over 10 times and she kept jumping back up. Finally she left in a huff. I could tell she was p/o.

Funnily enough, Leo has started getting more and more affectionate in recent days. Just before I read this he got in my lap an demanded attention. This is normally Bertie's role.

I have watched and loved to see Maisie get more and more affectionate over the year she has been here. She wants to be near me all the time and has started to come on my lap but mostly wants to sit next to me. At night she sleeps next to my pillows and I usually go to sleep with my hand on her fur!!! I think she would be even more loving if my much loved dog Meg was not jealous and tended to come for cuddles when she sees Maisie getting them . They are good friends though and have never had a cross word, I think! Maisie was three last June and continues to grow and her Winter coat is fabulous so thick and soft, oh I do love that pair who own me. Further she is not such a naughty Torty.

Ffion is such a lap cat that she will follow you into the loo to get a cuddle in while you're seated. When I took the kittens to Cornwall Ffion gifted almost every member of the family with a toilet lap cuddle!! In fact she can be quite an aggressive cuddler sometimes, particularly with Rich, she'll force herself on your lap even when he's trying to work on his laptop...as we speak she has climbed up upon my lap!!...I've learned to use the laptop at arms length.

Poif is more of an occasional lap cat. She prefers to snuggle with me in the dead of night both under the duvet and on my pillow. I frequently wake in the night to find a Poif beside me!

Oh gosh the toilet! What the heck is it with the toilet? Teddy always jumps on my lap there for a glorious snuggle. And Sasha jumps on my shoulder. So then I have TWO. Next thing I know Cleo and nala feel slighted and both show up. Nala hops on the sink next to the toilet for some lovin, and Cleo wants me to bend down to the floor (With a cat on my shoulder and a huge monster of a cat on my lap). Obviously I have no spare hands after holding Teddy, so Nala and Cleo leave in a huff. Sasha will take every inch of leftover body space she can get and is not hard to please...
