Thanks for all the comments and help / suggestions again.
Sorry it's been a while we have been so very busy!
Martha is going well, she's still on long term Metronidazole at the moment and a special diet but she is not far off of 4 kilos now and is looking much much better.
Hope everyone is doing well and all of your kitties are good

I enjoyed reading about Martha. I found this thread after searching for weight gain of a Maine Coon kitten. I wanted to share my story of my kitten, as it's so similar to yours. My Maine Coon kitten was from a shelter at age 7 months. (I know he's perhaps not truly a Maine Coon, but he has so many of the characteristics, including the most important... not making my allergic husband sneeze!). He'd been in the shelter for many weeks and had chronic diarrhea just as you described (yellow and runny), his whiskers were also very broken off! The shelter tried all different things... de-worming, medications, vitamin supplements, with no results. (Fortunately they did not give up on him... I guess because he was so gorgeous!). Finally they tried a strict diet of no grains. This worked, but when we got him, he had diarrhea again. We were feeding him a dry kibble of no-grain duck. Then we tried a wet food, as this is supposed to be better anyway. This was the cure!!! Only a wet food of DUCK with NO GRAINS. Several brands are available. I think Martha might have very good results with this, and if anyone else finds this thread do try this. We were so upset that our beloved kitty might suffer with this chronic issue and for the last several months he has done really well! The tummy issue has so many potential causes, and can involve numerous tests -- many with inconclusive results -- this is an easy solution to try. You can also try a little canned organic pumpkin as a treat.

Hi CriK8 - how do I pronounce this... crikey-eight?

How wonderful you rescued your kitty *and* managed to cure him!
He looks scrumptious. What is his name?
Is he solid black or black smoke? And are his eyes really blue or is it the photo?
Sorry for the many questions... ;)

Welcome! So glad you sorted your babe out. He looks so sweet and has such pretty eyes. When kitty doesn't feel well, it is so dificult to figure it out. Not like they can tell you how they feel after eating something.
My boy got a tidge of something he was allergic to while trying to find something new that he would like. Shouldn't have had a problem with that food though. My feeling is that it was a Menu foods problem. Aka not cleaning equipment out well between brands. Oh why oh why did I give in to cat food canned at Menu foods! What I am trying to say is if your boys problem reappears out of the blue, after a good spell, it may be from a company that cans multle brands not cleaning out the remnants from the previous brand. Either that or they are putting in stuff they should not have.Last edited by candes; 3rd March 2012 at 09:39 PM.
