Normal for Kitten to Shiver as it falls asleep?

I just got my kitten last weekend. He is now 15wks old. The other day I noticed that he shivers when he starts to fall asleep and seems to shiver for awhile while sleeping. I've covered him to make sure he is warm and I've checked him temp which is always normal. Any ideas what this could be from? Is vet intervention necessary or is this just normal for a kitten?

Is he eating ok,is he bright, does he seem happy, does he play ????? If all yes I wouldn't worry too much sounds to me that after he has had all his fun time his body is just going into the shudders as it relaxes & he drops off into slumberland, even my adults still do it if they have had a busy busy day & provide entertainment with the feet & whiskers twitching...x

Yes, he is bright eyed & bushy tail, runs & plays and gets into everything. He eats & drinks, and uses the litter box. As a mom, I just worry about him and only want the best for him. My other cats did twitch their paws and whiskers, and sometimes ever growled in their sleep. One cat even seemed to run in place a few times. But I've never seen them shiver/shudder like this little guy does.
    Thank you.

have you tried stroking him gently? That may add comfort since he is so yong. Also I surround my caats w lots of pillows & blankets so they feel very comfy and protected.

Yeah, I pet him, nuzzle, coo at him & put blankets & pillows all around him. He still shakes. P.S. Love the Beckyboo Cat Whisperer moniker.

    He's not purring is he?
None of mine have ever shivered... Ferrets shiver when they are trying to wake up but not kittens as far as I know!

Sometimes he purrs and sometimes not. jckkerrison may just have the answer. I'm trying to pay attention to his play time to see if it happens when he plays hard. So far on a slow play day he isn't doing it. He hasn't played hard since I 1st posted. It will be interesting to see if it happens again when he plays hard. I'll keep you all posted.

    Hello,

Phoebe does the same thing. I think she does it for sympathy as she always gets cuddles when it happens ;)

She doesnt do it so much anymore but she did when she was younger. I used to cover her up and put her inside my dressing gown as i was wandering around doing house work and she would still shiver.

Thanks everyone. I noticed that last night he did shiver when falling off to sleep even after a relaxing day. I'm going to chalk it off to just some normal kitten stuff. He seems to be fine in all other things. Thanks!
