MARION COUNTY -- Sixty-three cats and other animals have been removed from a Marion County home.

Marion County Animal Services say they removed the cats, along with an Amazon bird and a Golden Retriever dog that were living in poor conditions from a home on Thoroughbred Acres, Thursday.

The owner, 54-year-old Merry Wichman, bred and sold cats on the website, Angel Babies Maine Coon Cat.

Animal services say many of the animals were housed in 5-by-4 foot chain link cages with nine to 17 cats inside each one.

Marion County Fire Rescue’s HazMat team tested the air quality inside the home and determined it unsafe to enter without a respirator. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office removed Wichman from her property via the Baker Act and into protective custody for a mental evaluation.

According to Dr. David Jebens, DVM, Animal Services’ staff veterinarian, the cats’ conditions range from emaciated to fair/good. Many of the cats have respiratory issues, most likely from living in filthy conditions with poor air quality. Some of the cats are extremely thin and most have matted fur, flea infestation, skin problems and extremely foul odor due to living in their own waste.

The animals are now housed at the Marion County Animal Center, where staff is providing medical and nutritional care. Animal Services staff plans to file a petition for custody within 10 days as well as seek cruelty charges against the animal owner through the State Attorney’s Office.
cfnews13.com

I watched multiple videos and searched for special tools to remove those annoying mats on my cat's belly and under arms. I carefully plugged in the electric razor, but my cat Anastasia did not like the sound no matter how much time I would give her for adaptation.
So far, I have been using a wide comb to get to the base of the mat, small scissors to cut the hairs at the base and large scissors to snap the top of the thickest mats. This is a very tedious work; I wish my cat would not be afraid of electric razor.
Do you have any special barber tricks or tools for your kitties?

So I get in from work last night after one of those truly awful days where it was so bad you can't even be bothered to grumble about it, and I decided to hit the sack early and read in bed.

Freyja loves to sit on the bed - well, actually she likes to psycho out on the bed usually - and last night I just needed to loose myself in a good Sci-Fi. But she wanted to play Death To The Duvet and I firmly asked her to stop. Which she duly did, but sat there twitching and swishing whilst looking for the green light to go mental again.

And for some reason, I decided to read to her. Yes, that's right, I read my cat a bedtime story. Not really expecting it to make a blind bit of difference but my whole day had been such an unmitigated disaster that I thought, "why not?".

But here's the thing... firstly, her body posture relaxed a little, kind of like leaning on one elbow. Then her eyes blinked slowly shut. Then she did that lovely little thing they do when they lay down like a dog and rest their chins on the crossed front paws. Then she laid her head on the bed. She didn't sleep, but she just rested so blissfully.

Two chapters in (oh, yeah, I really went for it), she then did that other fabulous thing when they're so content they roll onto their backs, back legs akimbo, front paws flopped out over their chests, chins and bellies exposed for a damned good rub. She stayed like that for another chapter.

Spell was broken when OH started moving around downstairs, but for four whole chapters I was able to have my cat on my bed and keep my toes intact. And I didn't have to persuade my inquisitive kitten that she really was just a little TOO wide to be a truly useful book mark.

So, I can recommend the Dresden Files as means to send your cats to sleep. I'm going to try it again tonight - it would be really funny if I've got a book worm for a cat, because I generally won't leave my house unless I've got a book with me!

What do you think to the ingredients, etc?

Sorry, I actually thought I had updated as promised...:giddy:

This weight chart is based on a litter of 9 kittens I had.. plus my own Girls and boys as they grew from kittens to adults.

Our own bred baby MJ one of the litter of 9 is bigger now than the weight chart.. currently at 11 months weighs 18 pounds (8.164)

A very skinny maine coon was the one we recently got back aged 14 months she weighed just 8 pounds which is 3.62.. she looked shocking.. so this is not a good look for a Mainecoon of this age.

If any one would like a copy of this spread sheet, to use at a later date to infill the details. of their own babies let me know.. and I will add it as an attachment..

Average weights in grams

1 ounce = 28.35 grams
100 grams = 3.5 ounces
Minimum birth weights was around 75 grams for females and 83 grams for males.
Minimum weights at 12 weeks were 1200 grams for females and 1370 for males.

Hi All, just joined here as I got my first Coonlet last weekend. She's a great character, love her to bits already and she's got some guts having already stood her ground against my 47kg loopy German Shep...

However, I have a quick question for those more experienced with this lovely breed than I.... she's a blue smoke but has a rusty cast to her, which is quite brown on her back, although she's still palegrey/white underneath. The breeder assured me that it's just her kitten coat, but am I being led down a path or not? I don't think it really matters now, but I am thinking about breeding her and want to plan early, however if she is going to stay 'rusty' it may be more difficult to get her to breed true.

What do people think?

How do you Coonies shed and when? One of the owners of Norwegian Forest cattery told me that Norwegian cats shed very fast and in large quantities while Maincoons loose their coat gradually by small amounts at a time. This is the first year I have my kitties, and one of them shed like a snake in 1 week in August. I became concerned ant took her to the vet. $400 later, when all her tests turned out to be normal, I still had no answer to why she shed so fast. If it was a seasonal change, it should happen in spring or at least in the beginning of summer, and her sister would also be affected. I am aware that hair loss in cats can have million reasons, but want to know the common trend of shedding in your cats.

I decided to foster a kitty after losing my beloved Ragdoll Misha in May. I have done a lot of research and thought a Maine Coon would be a great match for me. I decided on this beautiful Maine Coon mix that a local rescue had. He is thought to be about 3 years old. He was rescued from a house along with his two doxie siblings after the family that was evicted left them behind. The officer decided to take them to rescues instead of animal control.

Sammy is a very laid back cat. The problem I am having is he really doesn't like any kind of interaction. He will tollerate me petting him. He doesn't come to me for affection at all. He will hang out with me a few feet away. I know that is a typical trait with Maine Coons. He will also "help" me with chores. I've always had cats that may not be lap cats but enjoy being next to you and petted. This is so hard for me. I've resigned to leaving him alone. I don't know what else to do. The vet said he is healthy and nothing is wrong with him. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Here he is:

Hello everyone; I'm wanting to purchase a Maine Coon kitten, but I'm new to purebred cats and breeders so I'm unsure of what to look for or who to purchase from. I've done quite a bit of researching and looking around over the last few months and I think I've found a few breeders I'm interested in purchasing from.

Name: Mitzi Guess
Cattery: Congocoons (CFA)
Location: Alabama
Welcome to Congocoon Maine Coon Cat Cattery of Alabama

Name: Kristin Graff
Cattery: Spellbound (?)
Location: Norway
http://www.mainecoons.no/english/index.html

Can anyone more experienced than myself tell me what they think about whether or not the sites look legit, their thoughts about the quality of the cats, any question marks, or things of that nature? I'd be exceedingly grateful if someone who's dealt with one of the breeders could give a little insight.

Also, I wouldn't mind any recommendations of breeders I should look at. I would welcome it actually. =)

Thanks ahead of time.
