    Maine coon kittens eat little?

    Hello
My name is Cristina and I live in Portugal.

I ‘m the happy owner of a kitten red tabby blotched Maine for 13 weeks and would and I take some doubts with you.

I think my kitten, name "RUCA" eats very little and I do not know if this is normal or not.

He eats dry food (kitten RC 36) and RC Kitten instinctintive.

Right now he weighs 2.400 kg. It’s a normal weight for a 13 weeks kitten ?

He plays a lot with my other cat, so he is not sick.
Also already took him to the vet who says he is in good health but I ´m worry.

Thank you in advance for your help

2.4kg is a very good weight for 13 weeks. My 3 kittens were all around 1.8kg at 12 1/2 weeks when they came to live with me. Check the weight comparison chart thread for others.

Do you leave dry food down all the time or is that a problem with also having an older cat too ? I can do that because all mine are the same age and all need to eat all the time

Good luck, and listen to the vet. Only worry if he starts loosing energy and gets too tired to play!

Hello and thanks for your answers.
In the morning I give him dry food first and then, damp food (Royal Canin instinctive).
Dry food is always available. Ruca Do not eat a lot of rations per day only about 40 gr. to 60 gr. Food damp eats about 1 to two boxes per day.

I must be accustomed to bad because my other cat (Rafa) who is 7 months old eat great food per day but not like most any other food.

Either way the two play a lot during the day, lack of energy there.
    Sorry for my bad English.

    dry food down all day.

Heres a question that i have
Why do people leave dry food down all day ?
In the wild a Cat will never have access to food all day, I know domestic cats are not wild, but we go the extra mile to give our MCs as close as their natural diet as we can.
I have large dog in my house and if i left food down all day i would have a skinny cat and and hippo sized dog.
None of my other cats have ever had food down all day and for some reason i think grazing is not good for any animal including humans. My last male cat would just eat until he was sick if i had a permanant food supply for him.

Can someone please clarify for me,
    Thanks

At the minute Jones is getting one pouch of wet food for brekkie, one pouch for tea, with dry food being left out for him during the day.

He doesn't seem to eat much of his dry food at all though. I've tried the same brand the breeder used (James Wellbeloved), Royal Canin Kitten, and some other stuff, Purely I think it is. Is this just down to him holding out for the pouches at brekkie and dinner maybe?

He also shows no interest so far in any of the treats we've have tried to give him, outisde of tuna or a bit of chicken, the fussy little bugger!

24 weeks old if that helps, and as far as can tell is a pretty normal weight, 10.6lbs the last time he inadvertently sat on the bathroom scales.

Gargh, I am totally confused now! When I went to the vet with Roxy she said that I should avoid giving wet food and stick with the RC 36 Kitten, as it contains everything she needs and Roxy tends towards runny poo. However, she doesn't seem to like it very much and wolfs down any wet food I put in front of her (I have been giving her different varieties of applaws and cooked chicken/steak offcuts). But then...the next day there is a soggy, smelly surprise in the litter tray! She had a bout of diarrhea as a small kitten and is just 1.6kg at 15 weeks, although she seems to gain a steady 250g per week at the moment, so I must be doing something right. What's the best way to feed a small kitten - should I be giving her more wet food despite the runny poo? Any advice would be appreciated!

She has no diarrhea now, just soft poo whenever I give her wet food. Not as long as I just feed the RC. I don't give her human food, just some boiled meat occasionally. She drinks a lot of water and is healthy and bouncy otherwise, but I wonder if she's missing out on something?

Our four all eat different fractions of dry and wet. In particular, one girl eats mainly dry, while the other eats mainly wet. The poops are distinctly different, and what one would expect from eating a lot of low moisture or high moisture food. Our experience has been that the more dry the cats eat the firmer their stools--unless the dry does not agree with them, in which case it certainly can cause diarrhea. The one girls that eats mainly wet has a few flavors that make her soft (or worse). How many different wet varieties have you tried? Have you tried different brands? If you have tried only a couple, it could simply be that they do not agree. Also, with kittens that young you often need to be careful about changes to their diet, so try introducing very small amounts of a wet per day for a few days. If even a small amount causes problems after 2-3 days then don't increase.

    Hi!!

I'm new here! I have some doubts about my Maine's growth. I would appreciate if someone can help me!

I have a blue classic tabby w/ white male 8 months old. He weighs 4,3kg (9,48lb) and measuring 90cm approximately. The cattery's owner said he has a european "standard". I'm not sure the word that she used. And that's because of his european "standard", he would gain weight more slowly than Maine with american "standard".

He eats 60-70g per day of dry food (Pro Plan Kitten).
I'm also giving a soup (chayote, carrots, sardines and a little unflavored gelatin) on alternate days.

He is eating normally for his age? And his weight and size? It is normal too?
    Thx!!

    Some photos...
In these photos he is 7 months and 3 weeks.
